Maureen Swan – About the Author

Maureen Swan is one of six children and grew up in Old Bridge, New Jersey.  Her childhood was idyllic, with days spent exploring nearby woods, splashing through steams, and horseback riding.  Always with an active imagination, her first story at age 10 was about the shopping bags under her family’s kitchen sink that came to life and ran away to avoid living among leaky pipes.  The story was so good her fourth grade teacher accused her of plagiarism!

Maureen spent her 35-year career at Verizon while raising her son and pursuing a bachelor’s and a master’s degree during the evening.  She has since retired and is now teaching part-time at various universities.

Although most of her writing had been focused on business, she always had a desire to explore her creative side; that combined with a deep love and compassion for children, led to her debut book entitled My Little Angels . . . Cameron’s Magic Rock.  This is the first in a series that focuses on helping children with the various challenges they encounter.

Interestingly, her first book was born of a challenge the author herself was facing.  At the time, she was undergoing treatment for breast cancer.  Having always been a spiritual person, at that point she deepened her prayer life by meditating on particular archangels.  One night as she fell asleep meditating on Archangel Uriel, the angel of creativity, she had a dream about Cameron’s Magic Rock, including the entire story and the appearance of each character.  Then, she woke up and wrote the book!

Speaking about the incident, Maureen said, “I didn’t feel as though I was writing – it actually felt like God was writing through me.  The words and story just flowed.”

She is looking forward to promoting the book online and at various craft shows, book stores, library readings, and schools.  She currently lives in Morristown, New Jersey, and enjoys ballroom dance, skiing, and the beach.  She also spends a lot of time with her son, Kevin, daughter-in-law, Rita, and two grandchildren, Cameron and Micaela.
